If you stop, you are not getting anywhere!
Remember the last time when you were on a hike in nature, driving to a new unfamiliar location, refurbishing your home or wooing your crush … having a goal and going for it. Why would you stop? Very likely because you are uncertain, uncertain about either the past or the future. Did I go the right way? Should I have turned left at the last fork? Will I arrive soon? Does she like me at all?
Such questions are not unjustified at all. Life and our environment are highly dynamic and constantly changing, and with every step we make and action we take we are further contributing to that change. So it is absolutely reasonable to try scrutinizing the past and forecasting the future. There is just one fundamental problem you will run into ... You will hardly ever get a final answer to any of such questions. There always will be uncertainty. This uncertainty causes doubts. Doubts will drain your energy and immobilize you. And once you have stopped, there is only one thing that becomes certain: That you will never find out whether you are on the right way.
Moreover, there is another problem with stopping, because the rules of physics also apply in psychology, too. The effort to get something moving is much higher than to keep it moving. So next time when you are about to make a stop think about how hard it will be to get moving again. Very often when you take a break it turns out you made a break. You should carefully deliberate the purpose and the benefits of stopping and whether it is worth the price.
So should you keep moving even if you are not sure whether you are headed in the right direction or if you do not know what to do next? Yes, definitely! Why? Because change creates opportunities. Opportunities that are especially valuable because they are mostly unanticipated and hence not tainted by your expectations. Of course it requires a certain degree of vigilance to be able to recognize such opportunities. By keeping this in mind you will foster the right mindset for positive changes in your life.
So … Keep moving! And stop for serious enlightenment only! ;-)
